The birth of a child is a unique moment - full of emotions, anticipation and perhaps also some uncertainties. In this intensive phase of life, it is particularly important that you feel that you are in good hands, both medically and personally. At Zollikerberg Hospital, we support you with an interdisciplinary, experienced team that works closely together. Our obstetrics and neonatology departments are there for you from pregnancy and birth to the first days with your newborn.
What you can expect from us
We focus on comprehensive, personalised care in which you and your baby take centre stage. You can expect these benefits when you give birth at Zollikerberg Hospital:
- A well-coordinated team: Doctors, midwives and nurses work closely together so that you can feel safe at all times.
- Mother and child remain united: Even if special care is required, you will remain in close contact with your child. Closeness and bonding are our top priority.
- All-round support: With breastfeeding counselling, psychological support and our parent driving school, we are at your side with advice and support even after the birth.
- Quick help in an emergency: The maternity ward is located next door to the neonatology department for maximum safety. This means that a specialised team is immediately on hand at the crucial moment.
- Prenatal medical support: We provide you with personalised advice even during pregnancy, particularly in the event of special questions or risk situations.
- Rooms that make you feel at ease: All rooms have natural light and a terrace with a view of the countryside - for relaxation in pleasant surroundings.
Obstetrics and neonatology door to door: proximity that creates security
Every birth is unique and we accompany you just as individually. Our aim is to ensure that you and your newborn baby feel safe and in good hands at every stage of labour. Our experienced midwives, doctors and nurses are there for you around the clock. Together with you, we will organise the birth process in a way that suits you and your child best. We use conventional medical methods - and, if you wish, also complementary treatments such as acupuncture, aromatherapy or relaxing massages.
Immediately after the birth, the focus is on bonding, the first, precious bond between you and your newborn. In this special phase, you should be able to feel your child: Closeness, touch and time together are crucial for building a relationship. We also actively involve fathers so that the new life begins in a loving environment.
Did you know that our labour ward is directly connected to the neonatal unit (neonatology)? This close proximity can make all the difference in an urgent case. The specialised neonatology team can be in the neonatal unit in just a few seconds, without long distances, waiting times or transfers to another floor or hospital.
For you, this means that even in the event of a premature birth or unexpected complications, your child will receive the medical care it needs directly on site, while you are close by. Mother and child stay together at Zollikerberg Hospital whenever possible. If your child is transferred to our neonatal ward, the proximity between the maternity ward and the neonatology department ensures a smooth handover, without any hectic rush or change of location and always with the aim of maintaining safety and security.
If your child is on our neonatal ward, you can visit them at any time - even with your bed if they are not yet mobile. Our nursing staff will be happy to take you from your room in the Maternité to your child on the neonatology ward, which is just around the corner. In this way, we ensure that bonding can begin as early as possible, provided your child's condition allows it. And this is exactly what makes the big difference for many parents compared to other maternity clinics.
After the birth, it is important that you recover. Our rooms at the Maternité are all on the ground floor, have a small terrace and offer a view of the hospital's own park.

Seamless care for you and your newborn baby
Dr Barbara Blöchlinger-Wegmann, Head of Obstetrics, Women's Clinic: "Our patients feel that we are all pulling in the same direction - obstetrics and neonatology are not separate worlds for us, but a joint care network. As every newborn is also cared for by the neonatology team, the collaboration is very close." Find out more about how we support you through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period at Zollikerberg Hospital.
Prenatal medicine as a bridge: forward-looking care for special cases
We are already there for you during pregnancy. Our prenatal medicine is a central component of the networked care at Zollikerberg Hospital. It forms the bridge between obstetrics and neonatology so that we can ensure at an early stage that you and your child are optimally supported from the very beginning.
Particularly in the case of a high-risk pregnancy or if something abnormal is discovered during an ultrasound scan, we ensure seamless care from diagnosis to after the birth. We take our time, support you sensitively, explain things clearly and prepare everything so that you can concentrate fully on the essentials: the birth of your child and the start as parents together with your child.
Because every birth happens in its own way, and that's perfectly fine. It is crucial to have a team at your side at such times that knows what to do and supports you as a family.
Specialised services for special situations
The close cooperation between our obstetrics and neonatology departments pays off. In addition to medical expertise, good communication is also required - not only between the specialists, but also with the parents. Thanks to experienced specialist staff, modern infrastructure, short distances and clear processes, we are able to provide security even in challenging moments and give the newborn a safe start in life.
Security and stability for the little ones
Prof. Vera Bernet, MD, Chief Physician and Clinic Director of the Clinic for Neonatology: "Our aim is to provide stability even in special situations - medically at the highest level and with a great deal of empathy for the whole family." Baby facelift: Everything you need to know - An interview with Prof Fansa, Head of Plastic Surgery
Facelifting is a hot topic that is also gaining increasing attention in Hollywood. In particular, the baby facelift, a gentle and less invasive method for treating wrinkles and early signs of ageing, is becoming increasingly popular. Unlike traditional facelifts, which require deeper incisions and more intensive tissue removal, the baby facelift offers a more subtle solution. It treats early signs of ageing while providing a fresh, natural look - without major changes. The trend is increasingly moving towards gentler procedures with shorter recovery times and less scarring. We spoke to Prof Hisham Fansa, MD, our Head of Plastic Surgery, to find out more about modern facelift techniques and their benefits.
