During a detailed consultation, we will explain the entire procedure to you and answer any questions you may have. Please refrain from smoking, arnica and other herbal remedies as well as painkillers that can affect blood clotting two weeks before the operation. If you have high blood pressure, this should be clarified and treated in advance.

The facelift is performed under general anaesthetic. The incision is made in the area of the temple and is then barely visible behind the cartilage at the front of the ear. If the neck is also tightened, the incision is continued behind the earlobe and extends to the hairline. The deep subcutaneous connective tissue layer (SMAS, DEEP plane) is then tightened to restore the youthful shape of the face. After tightening, excess skin is removed and the incisions are carefully sutured. As a rule, no drains to drain wound fluid and no dressing are required.

After a successful facelift, it is normal for the face to be swollen for a period of around one to two weeks. Bruising may also be visible, which usually fades within two to three weeks. It is important to know that these symptoms are typical side effects of a successful facelift. Temporary numbness of the facial skin may occur in the first few days, but this is usually painless and disappears completely within a few weeks. We remove the stitches after five to ten days.

It is recommended to avoid heavy physical labour, intensive sport and sauna visits for the first three to four weeks after the procedure. After about three months, the scars will begin to lighten. It is to be expected that they will become less and less noticeable over time.

Acute complications are very rare. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks such as bleeding, infection or wound healing disorders. You can minimise these risks by avoiding smoking and not taking herbal remedies. Both can disrupt wound healing and blood clotting. Swelling that could potentially affect the facial nerve is extremely rare and usually of a temporary nature. We will explain the possible risks to you during a detailed consultation.
