A wound that does not heal properly can have a significant impact on daily life. It often requires patience, careful treatment and people who pay close attention. An ostomy also raises many questions for those affected: How can I manage my care on a day-to-day basis? What do I need to bear in mind? And who can I turn to if I have any concerns or experience any symptoms? At the Wound and Stoma Counselling Service at Zollikerberg Hospital, we support patients with professional expertise, modern medicine and a great deal of empathy. Our aim is to support wound healing as effectively as possible, prevent complications and empower those affected to maintain their independence and quality of life.
When wounds won’t heal
Not every wound heals on its own. Some wounds persist for a long time, reopen or cause pain, anxiety and limitations in everyday life. Wounds that are particularly difficult to heal require specialist treatment.
During our wound consultation, we take the time to carry out a thorough assessment. We focus not only on the wound itself, but always on the person behind it: their symptoms, their life circumstances, any underlying conditions and the question of which treatment can be easily incorporated into their daily routine.
Personalised treatment rather than a one-size-fits-all solution
Every wound is different. That is why we draw up individually tailored treatment plans and regularly adapt the treatment to the healing process. We use modern wound care methods and structured documentation to ensure that changes can be tracked and the treatment can be refined in a targeted manner.
The clinic is led by doctors and staffed by certified wound care specialists and stoma therapists. This combination of medical expertise, practical experience and personalised advice results in care that supports patients every step of the way.
Support in managing a stoma
A stoma changes everyday life. After surgery, many people affected must first get used to a new body image and a new care routine. Alongside practical questions, feelings of uncertainty, shame or anxiety may also arise.
Our stoma counselling service helps patients gain confidence in managing their stoma. We advise on the appropriate care, answer questions about its use and support those affected on their journey back to greater independence. It is important to us that you know: you are not alone with your questions.
Well connected – for seamless care
Successful wound and stoma care does not end at the hospital door. That is why we work closely with GPs, home care services (Spitex) and other relevant specialist units. This ensures that treatment can continue as seamlessly as possible outside the hospital.
This interdisciplinary collaboration is particularly important when a wound requires long-term treatment or when patients need regular support in their daily lives. The aim is to provide care that is medically sound, well-coordinated and easy for patients to understand.
