In this episode of the Morgen:Rapport podcast, Eliane Pfister Lipp discusses the results of the National Research Programme 74 (Smarter Health Care) with Milo Puhan, Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Zurich and head of the programme. The programme brings together 34 practice-oriented research projects dealing with the future of healthcare in Switzerland. The final report was published last year.
The central question is: Where should the healthcare system be heading? People and the context in which they live must take centre stage even more, interprofessional collaboration and primary care must be strengthened and the financial and legal framework must be adapted so that "more health per franc invested" is achieved than in the past. However, Milo Puhan also emphasises that the major lever for improving health is not the healthcare system, but lies in areas such as education, welfare and social connectedness.
Conclusion: The research results of NRP 74 provide concrete approaches for making the healthcare system more efficient and people-centred - and the research projects have also shown that implementation can be successful.
