During a detailed consultation, we will explain the entire procedure to you and clarify any questions you may have. Please refrain from smoking for a fortnight before the operation and from taking painkillers, which can affect the clotting of your blood.

We can perform upper eyelid correction under local anaesthetic. For lower eyelid correction or joint surgery of the upper and lower eyelid, we recommend a short anaesthetic. The incisions are made in the natural skin folds of the eyelids and are virtually invisible later on. Excess skin and fatty tissue can thus be easily removed and the skin tightened. Additional fatty tissue from other parts of the body may be required for some lower eyelid lifts.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. The eyelids feel tight on the first day. It helps to keep your eyes closed as much as possible on the day of the operation. We also recommend the use of eye drops as they reduce the swelling of the eyes. The upper eyelids are swollen for about five to ten days. The lower eyelids may remain swollen for longer. We remove the stitches after five to seven days. Make-up can then be applied again if desired. Bruising can remain for two to three weeks, depending on the tendency. In the first few weeks after treatment, you may experience increased tearing and increased sensitivity of your eyes to light or strain. You should avoid heavy physical labour, sport and sauna visits for the first two weeks. If you wear contact lenses, you should not wear them for two to three weeks.

Acute complications are very rare. However, as with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks, such as bleeding, infection or wound healing disorders. The swelling can cause asymmetries, which usually even out later. To minimise the risks, we recommend that you refrain from smoking. Ectropion is a rare complication of the lower eyelid. In most cases, such a drooping eyelid reattaches itself. We will discuss the exact risks in detail during your consultation.
